Recognizing Our Powerful Women: Today and Beyond
President, Cisco Canada
Women in Communications and Technology (WCT) just announced the recipients of their Leadership Excellence Awards, recognizing women, men and organizations committed to diversity and closing the gender gap in Canada’s tech industries.
It is an absolute and sheer honor to be named WCT’s 2019 Woman of the Year in communications and technology. I’m so grateful and humbled -- but most importantly, proud of the organization I am a part of. I see this recognition as a reflection of our strong team of powerful, talented, and remarkable women at Cisco, and of a culture that actively supports us.
Here at Cisco Canada, we believe in the power of diversity and we back it up through concrete measures that support their advancement in business and leadership. The value that we place on a diverse and inclusive workforce is demonstrated in the makeup of our global executive leadership team, which is over 40% female. We don’t just vocalize our support, we put it into action.
On the eve of International Women's Day, let's all be mindful that while we have many reasons to celebrate, there is always more to do -- and there are many things individuals can do themselves to help. To my fellow leaders and colleagues: I challenge you. Support the women you admire, encourage their success and enable them further with mentorship, advice or encouragement. Take the Multiplier Effect pledge today. We will all benefit from your efforts. There is no better time than today to stand up for what you believe in and to encourage diversity, at your workplace and beyond.
